A Fit Mind

Los Angeles is a city where plastic surgery has found a home, leaving the art of true
mental and physical health lost in the jumble. This is true not only in LA, but in
many other cities where it has been overlooked that fitness starts in the head. My
name is Esmey Leon, and as a personal trainer in LA, I can vouch for the importance
of a fit mind.

For me, having a fit mind comes before having a fit body. Fitness is more than just
having a “nice” body. As a matter a fact, that is just the cherry on the top. Fitness
is how you live your life, the words you choose to speak, the thoughts you allow to
exist in your head, how you treat others, and how you feel about yourself, to name a
few. I have met many people, men and women, who have a beautiful physique; yet,
they are not happy. That is because the first phase was skipped, which is coming to
means with our beautiful imperfect selves in our heads. We have to be ok with not
being perfect. You will never reach and KEEP a desired weight if you skip that first
phase. Below are a few things I like to remind myself when my mind is getting in
the way of my physical fitness.

1. Learn to control the inflow of your thoughts. The ability to master the
thoughts in the head is directly related to physical fitness. The more positive
thoughts, the better the chances are at achieving optimal fitness success.
2. Start where you are. Let go of what happened yesterday, an hour ago and
even ten minutes ago. Grant yourself the opportunity to start fresh on your
fitness goal now. If you fall, simply get back in it.
3. Withhold from judging other people. The bad qualities we see in others
are the reflection of what we feel inside about ourselves. The less we judge,
the more comfortable we are in our own skin. Outcome: better health
mentally and physically.
4. Meditate. If you haven’t tried this already, this is a great way to get in tuned
with your true self, giving you the solid foundation to tackle any goals you
may have, including those 10 pounds you want to lose!

There is more to fitness than pure vanity. It’s a mental peaceful state that allows
you to see with clarity and be yourself. It’s not easy, but totally worth it because
when your mind is at peace, then the ability to make the right choices i.e. what foods
you decide to put in your body, become so much easier!

Best of the Best in 2012,

Esmey Leon
