The Dougie…. A hip hop move performed by moving your hand close to or near your head or hair while moving back and forth. This dance move just keeps popping up in my life with so many teaching opportunities attached to it.
A few years ago I lead a group of pre-teens in performing “Teach me how to Dougie” at a football game. This year as Mrs. Oregon I taught children all over the State of Oregon how to Dougie in the Beyonce “Move Your Body” dance to get kids Movin’.
But I have not found a way to educate new moms with this dance move until now…..Behold…. “Teach me how to Breast Feed” Dougie Style!!!
I want to give a shout out to all my friends and family members who have just had a baby. My dietician (and very pro breastfeeding) cousin who writes the incredible blog The Intuitive Mama shared this video with me. I just died laughing!!! Honestly the video does an amazing job of highlighting some very important points. And trust me your will never forget them after watching.
- Feeding on demand (when your baby shows they are hungry)
- Skin to skin is important bonding time and also supports your milk supply coming in
- Look in to your baby eyes while breastfeeding for great bonding time
- Breast milk is “liquid gold” and the best food for your baby
- Touch your babies nose to your nipple to help them open their mouths wide for a good latch
- Make sure you as the mama are comfortable and relaxed while feeding
- If breastfeeding is painful consult a lactation specialist
- Breast milk helps build your babies immune system
- Drink plenty of liquids and have frequent healthy snacks while breastfeeding. This will help keep your energy/nutrient level up and keep you producing more milk.
