This week I found myself singing a little Rihanna…
“Cheers to the freakin’ weekend I drink to that, yeah yeah! Got my Ray-Bans on and I’m feelin’ hella cool tonight, yeah.”
I laughed at the thought that even Rihanna knows the importance, and coolness of protecting your eyes with a good pair of Ray-bans!! Take it from her, sunglasses are not just cool fashion accessories. They are important tools that can really protect your eyes. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends wearing sunglasses that block 97-100% of UVA and UVB rays.
Why does UV protection matter you might be wondering? UV radiation from the sun can damage the skin on your eyelid, your cornea, lens, and other parts of the eye. Over time, damage from UVA and UVB rays increase your risk of vision loss, glaucoma, and forms of eye cancer.
So when you are picking out your trendy new sunglasses for this summer’s sunny activities, look for UV-protection details on product labels. Skip sunglasses don’t offer UV protection. Opt for larger or wraparound lenses, rather than smaller lenses. Not to mention by not squinting in sunlight, you are avoiding crows feet.
Take it from me, wearing a cute pair of sunglasses with UV protection will keep you healthy, and sexy for years to come.
